Cura is probably the best known and most popular software for 3D printing, because the software is simple and easy to use. This is also the reason why I always disliked using it in the beginning, because it only has the function to preheat the printer and move the axes, no extruding, no filament change. This is also understandable, since you can do that via the display, but I just don't always want that, or there are still printers without, or without a usable display. Regarding slicing, Cura is top, because it runs fast and stable and meanwhile it can "again" come up with unique slicer functions, so that it became interesting for me again.

Who is Cura for?
The slicer is designed to make printing much easier for newcomers. With the ability to filter the settings into Basic, Advanced, Expert and All, this slicer is also very interesting for very experienced users, especially because of the wide range of functions.

What I do not like about the slicer
The slicer offers the possibility to create material libraries, but if you use the advanced settings, this does not work anymore and you have to create a separate print profile for each material (also recommended by the manufacturer). So if you work with many different print settings (Fast, Detailed, Stable, Litography,...) and many materials, you will quickly lose track of your profiles. IdeaMaker (Slicer) offers a much better solution here, you should only create a separate printer for each nozzle diameter, which in this case again complicates everything.

I use the program because of:

Automatic variable layer height
Printing of support (Treesupport) which is ideal for figures
When changing nozzles, just change the nozzle diameter in the settings
Infill only for supporting the ceiling (very economical for illustrative objects/test prints)
Multiple infill (infill structure with 2 or more runs side by side to make it more stable)
Infill with additional wall travel
Octoprint upload
Molding from model
