Side handle for the camera cage - GH5
After purchasing a Panasonic Lumix GH5 to shoot cinematic videos, I wanted maximum user-friendliness and image stability, which can only be achieved with a side grip. This allows you to hold the camera extremely steadily and securely in your hand. It also makes it possible to hold the camera briefly in your left hand to change settings without blurring the image, thanks to the extremely good image stabilisation. Since these handles were only available in wood at the time and started at around £100, I decided after my successful camera handle from the 3D printer project, I decided that I now wanted another handle from the 3D printer.
The requirements
- The handle must be easy to produce with an FDM printer.
- It must be stable enough to support the entire weight of the camera.
- The handle should be quick to remove when not in use by means of a quick release mechanism.
- The handle must be ergonomic and should shift most of the weight to the back of the hand so that the camera can be held for long periods without causing fatigue, as this would cause the image to shake.
Conclusion
The handle turned out really well and filming with it is a real pleasure. Even though it took a little longer than expected for the project to be successful, it was successful and I learned a lot and ended up with a great, inexpensive camera handle.
