Minion Penholder FDM 3D Printing Project
A good friend of mine, who has been a big Star Wars fan since childhood, collects everything Star Wars she can get her hands on. After the movie “Despicable Me” came out, in which the Minions made their first guest appearance, she started doing the same with the Minions. When I saw a model of a Darth Vader Minion on the internet, I knew I had to print it as a gift for her. But since I like useful things, I decided to make it into a pen holder. However, since the model was not optimized for 3D printing, it turned out to be quite a challenge.
This is how I converted the object in a printable File
The file was created using a program such as Blender, which allows you to create three-dimensional objects for animations that are later used in films and video games.
Unfortunately, the problem with such files is that they are not watertight and are only flat, meaning that making the file printable requires a little more effort.
If you try to print the file directly, it is very likely that parts will be missing because they are too thin to print, and many interior walls would be printed unnecessarily.
