Sony RX100 M6 - Professional Compact Camera
The Sony RX100 M6 compact camera is a very small camera with a 1-inch sensor, which is quite large for its size. From the 6th generation onwards, it has a 20-200mm superzoom lens. Unfortunately, this makes it less suitable for shooting in low light, especially since it lacks optical image stabilization.
I chose this camera because I was looking for a good pocket-sized camera that I could easily take with me on vacation or short trips. An important factor for me was that the camera had to be significantly better than my smartphone camera, otherwise I wouldn't need it, and it definitely is. I would only shoot in RAW with this camera under ideal conditions, because the RAW photos show noticeable lens curvature, vignetting at 20mm, and very strong image noise on Indoor shots.
Longer video recordings are also not good for the camera, as it needs a new battery every 30 minutes in FHD and can overheat after 2-3 batteries; it's even worse in 4K.
The things I appreciate about the camera:
- Small, light, and compact
- Very fast shutter speed
- Very fast continuous shooting
- Very good and fast autofocus (I would almost go so far as to say it's the best in its class)
- The ability to record in HLG, S-Log, etc. (video as well as photo (the picture profiles also affect the RAW photo))
- Very great slow-motion function
- Very great video recordings possible with a gimbal
To the camera To make the most of your camera, you absolutely must buy a cage. It has a good wooden handle that makes holding the camera much easier, and it only adds a marginal amount of size and weight. It also provides better protection, and you can mount accessories like battery packs, LED lights, and similar items with 1/4" screws. To take great long-exposure photos or cinematic videos, you absolutely need an adapter to attach filters, such as the magnetic MagFilter. It's crucial to buy the largest size available, otherwise you'll get vignetting when shooting at a 20mm focal length, which would be a real shame. Since the filter is attached with a magnetic ring, it's also very easy to remove and replace when not needed. In combination with a gimbal, you can create fantastic video recordings, as the camera supports HLG and S-Log, as well as what is probably the best... Autofocus.

A great guide with tips and tricks

Anyone considering buying this camera should now to its successor, the Sony RX100 VII because it is now equipped with a microphone input, allowing you to record good audio for your great videos even in windy conditions.
Those who don't need a good zoom but simply want to use the great photo and video functions in a pocket-sized format can also consider the slightly older https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Cyber-shot_DSC-RX100
Update frequency:
Small compact cameras like this usually receive few, if any, updates. Manufacturers prefer that you regularly buy the newer model, even though it only offers minimal improvements.
Conclusion:
I wouldn't currently recommend this camera, as the newer version finally has a microphone input and offers a few minor improvements, all for a minimal price increase.
If you want a camera with a built-in ND filter and don't need such a powerful zoom, I can recommend the less expensive predecessor, or the revised version, which was specifically designed for vloggers and, in addition to a microphone input, also has a windscreen for the built-in microphone, enabling excellent audio recordings without an additional microphone.
I will update this post if I learn anything new.
