Globe Trotter Rodeo - Scale Adventure 2019
The Globe Trotter Rodeo is an off-road event at Erzberg in Styria, Austria, which includes a sub-event called Scale Adventure, where small scale models can also demonstrate their skills. Nevertheless, it is an event for the whole family, as the focus is on fun and sharing a hobby during a trip lasting several hours through the rocky terrain at Erzberg.
As you can see in the video, the event starts in beautiful weather with a light breeze, which made it very dusty, and towards the end it rains more and more, but with my Panasonic Lumix Fz 1000, which is weatherproof, I never had to worry about the equipment at any point.
Most of the video was filmed with a 24 mm focal length and from the lowest possible perspective in order to create the most realistic impression possible. This was made possible by my self-designed camera grip from my 3D printer, which was mounted on the hot shoe. Thanks to the very light plastic grip, which is also very ergonomic, it was no problem to film all day long. The grip allowed me to operate the camera safely and precisely even on the steepest terrain, resulting in some great shots.
I filmed the last part in the forest with my Sony FDR 1000V because I have a wireless monitor for this camera, which allowed me to look elsewhere while pointing the camera. Thanks to the extreme wide-angle lens, I was able to capture great shots of the cars driving past on the narrow path just a few centimetres away from the camera.
I was very impressed by how much fun, joy and warmth there was at the event, even with the dust, rain and the occasional car breakdown. I'll definitely be back, but next time with my own car, which will have several cameras installed.
The event was captured on camera by my wife using the Panasonic Lumix Fz1000 and will upload the photos in the new format shortly.
